Seiko has introduced the Presage Classic Series x Tradman’s Bonsai Limited Edition HCC009J1, a new mechanical watch built around the colour and texture of a Japanese pine tree. It is scheduled for release in September 2026 and production is limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide. This is not a simple green-dial version of an existing Presage. The dial, gold-coloured case and included accessories all connect to the bonsai theme.
A dial shaped by an old pine tree
Tradman’s Bonsai was founded in 2015 with the aim of presenting traditional Japanese bonsai in a modern way. For this collaboration, the main reference is a sanko-matsu pine that is said to be more than 150 years old.
The dial uses a deep green colour called Matsuba-iro, named after pine needles. Its strong pattern is inspired by the rough bark of an old pine tree. Light catches the raised texture from different angles, while the gold hands, applied hour markers and printed text stand clearly against the dark background. There is no date window, so nothing cuts through the pattern.
Gold colour without a gold case
The 38 mm case and bracelet are made from stainless steel with a gold-coloured hard coating. It is important to be clear that this is not a solid-gold watch. Seiko mixes brushed and polished surfaces across the case and multi-row bracelet, then adds a fine pattern around the bezel for more detail.
The case measures 12.9 mm thick and 43.8 mm from lug to lug, with a 20 mm distance between the lugs. On my 6.5-inch wrist, those dimensions should be easy to wear. The compact length matters as much as the 38 mm diameter, although the bright gold colour will still give the watch plenty of presence.
A black calfskin strap is also included. Its surface has a natural-looking texture and the underside carries an embossed sanko-matsu design. The strap uses a three-fold clasp with push-button release, giving owners a calmer alternative to the full gold-coloured bracelet.
Calibre 6R51 and practical specifications
Inside is Seiko’s automatic calibre 6R51, which can also be wound by hand. It runs for approximately 72 hours when fully wound, so the watch can be left off the wrist for most of a weekend without stopping. The movement has 24 jewels, a stop-seconds function and a stated accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day.
The dual-curved sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface. Water resistance is rated to 10 bar and magnetic resistance is 4,800 A/m. Around the back, a screw-down display case lets the owner see the movement. The limited-edition wording and individual serial number are engraved on the caseback.
Presentation, price and availability
Seiko supplies the HCC009J1 in a special wooden presentation box. The package holds the watch and extra leather strap, while an original cleaning cloth carries the Tradman’s Bonsai logo and a sanko-matsu illustration. These extras feel connected to the collaboration instead of looking like unrelated gifts.
The confirmed UK price is £1,250. At current exchange rates, that is approximately $1,686 or €1,459. The dollar and euro figures are conversions, not confirmed regional retail prices.
Conclusion
I like how far Seiko has carried the idea. The dial is the strongest part because it can look almost black in low light, then reveal a rich pine green and a much clearer texture under direct light. The gold-coloured finish will not suit everyone, but it gives this Presage a clear identity. I would wear it first on the bracelet and keep the black strap for quieter occasions. With its useful size, three-day movement and well-developed theme, this is one limited edition that feels different for a real reason.
