Casio has added a new model to its Vintage range for July 2026, and the A1000SP-7 is more than another colour change. It keeps the familiar rectangular digital display but surrounds it with a stainless-steel case, a solid metal bracelet and, most importantly, a sapphire crystal. This is the specification that makes the new model stand out among Casio’s classic digital watches.

Sapphire crystal is the main attraction

Sapphire is much more resistant to everyday scratches than acrylic or normal mineral glass. It is not impossible to damage, but keys, desk edges and normal daily wear are far less likely to leave scratches on it. Sapphire is still unusual on an affordable digital Casio, so this upgrade gives the A1000SP-7 a real advantage rather than a change that exists only for decoration.

The crystal also plays a part in the design. Casio has applied a striped vapor-deposition treatment to its underside. Below it sits a brass dial with a sunray finish. Together, these surfaces create visible depth around the digital screen, with the pattern changing as light hits the watch from different angles. The result is more interesting than a flat silver face while remaining easy to wear with almost anything.

Full stainless-steel construction

The case and bezel are made from stainless steel. Casio also fits a solid stainless-steel band with a one-touch three-fold clasp. Hairline-brushed and mirror-polished surfaces are combined across the band, giving it a mix of matte and shiny areas instead of one uniform finish.

The case measures 39.6 mm from top to bottom, 38 mm wide and only 7.3 mm thick. Including the bracelet, the watch weighs 101 grams. The compatible wrist range is 150 to 205 mm. These dimensions make it a slim unisex digital watch, although its solid steel construction should feel more substantial than Casio models with resin cases and folded bracelets.

A very useful 1/100-second stopwatch

The 1/100-second stopwatch is a very cool feature on a watch with such a clean, simple appearance. It can measure up to 59 minutes and 59.99 seconds. Its modes cover elapsed time, split time and first- and second-place finishes, so it offers more than a basic start-and-stop timer.

Other functions include a daily alarm, an hourly time signal and a white Super Illuminator LED backlight for reading the display in low light. The watch can show time in 12- or 24-hour format, while normal timekeeping displays the hour, minute, second, PM indicator, date and day. Its automatic calendar is programmed with 28 days for February.

Three years from one CR1616 battery

Power comes from a CR1616 battery, with an estimated life of approximately three years. That is good for a digital watch with an LED backlight, alarm and stopwatch. It is not solar powered, but three years between expected battery changes keeps ownership simple.

Price and availability

Official regional prices have not yet been announced, but early pricing information obtained by WatchRider indicates that the Casio A1000SP-7 should cost around $178 in the United States, €156 in Europe and £134 in the United Kingdom.

Conclusion

The A1000SP-7 combines the functions people expect from a classic Casio digital watch with materials that should age better. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is the strongest reason to consider it, but the slim steel case, solid bracelet, bright backlight, detailed stopwatch and three-year battery life all add practical value. It looks clean and simple, yet Casio has not removed the useful features that make a digital watch enjoyable to own. The watch will also come in special packaging, a welcome extra that makes the presentation feel more complete and also suits it well as a gift.
